1.) Who are you and where at do you live?
My name is José Roberto Ferreira Junior, I live in São Paulo – Brazil. My artistic name is JGor and I use this name to sign my art works. I am 37 years old.
2.) What did you do before you decided to become an artist?
I did a lot of things, but the most part of the time I worked in a hospital. Before I become an artist I did some sentences with spray cans. I draw since I was a child. I am a self-taught artist.
3.) When and why did you decide you devote to the art?
My home town calls Cajuru (country side of São Paulo). When I moved in 1999 to São Paulo I saw the graffiti and I had my first contact with the art and I saw that “this is my world”. Since I was a child I draw on desks and on the walls of some schools and I always said to my mother that I’ve wanted to be a drawer.
4.) What are your favorite subject(s) and media(s)?
My favorite kind of media is rap, jazz, hip hop, hardcore, rock, trash metal and classic music. My favorite subject is about sport and art.
5.) How do you work and approach your subject?
Sometimes the images come to my head and I paint them and sometimes I just going picking up colors and improvising.
6.) What do you like about your work?
I like the freedom of using any colors that I desire and with no rules.
7.) Which artist or art movement that has influenced you and what way?
The art movement that has influenced me was the graffiti and the artist that I have identified myself was Jean Michel Basquiat because megazines have compared me with this artist. After it I have searched about his life and I saw that our paintings were look like.
8.) What are the best responses you have had to your work?
The best response for me is when the children comes to me with a draw when I am painting and say “Look my drawing! I did it to you. It’s like yours.” The best thing to me is to be an inspiration to the children.
9.) What are your favorite art work(s) and artist(s)?
My favorite artists are Basquiat, Miró, Salvador Dali, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, Gêmeos and Speto.
10.) What advice would you give to other artists?
My advice is that the artist must make a lot of draws and paintings to assembly his own style and technique, work hard and be humble.
11.) Is there a question you ask you keep telling yourself?
If one day my art will reach the inside of each person in any place of the earth?
